Hi all! Earlier in December I posted a Snow White look using Polyvore! Here’s the image to remind you:
Snow White is one of my favorite fairy tales; especially the Brother’s Grimm version. To me, Snow White’s story is a lesson that beauty isn’t everything. The Grimm version talks about how the Wicked Queen tried to kill Snow White three times (four if you count her sending the Huntsman after her). Yet, the story ends with promise of love for Snow White and her new prince. However, did anyone ever think of what happened to the Wicked Queen after Snow White awoke from her deep sleep?
Anyways, I decided to film a brief video of my demonstration of this Snow White look. This is my first makeup tutorial and I wanted to include a voice over but my iPhone audio file did not want to work with Camtastia. So, instead, I just stuck with some nice music and pretty banners.
I love to read! If you’ve followed my previous blogs you might already know that but I think it’s time I share some of that love with this blog. Just to keep it short and simple, here is my book list for 2017. Since I just graduated from my last semester of graduate school, these are all the books that I’ve been wanting to read since I graduated high school (like 8 years ago)!
Reading List for 2017
At some point, I would like to read any (or all) of these books but I would also like to participate in PopSugar’s 2017 Reading Challenge List. I’ve seen their lists before and have even blogged about one in hopes to participate but school got in the way (as it usually does).
One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to work out more. I already try to be active (especially since I have an office job and sit most of the day) but my typical workout routine was often dry and included short workout moves found from fitness magazines. Since I can’t afford a gym membership, I decided to use one of my favorite places to find fun workouts – YouTube! So, for this week, these are my favorite workout videos and what my reaction to them are when doing them.
January 1st: Five Park Yoga’s Invigorating Morning Flow Yoga Class
This workout is a 38-minute yoga workout. I liked the idea of this video and thought the instruction was easy to understand, however, I haven’t taken a yoga class before so this workout was a little more advanced than I was expecting. I’ll admit, I wasn’t able to go quite as fast as the instructor so I sort of lagged behind. I do like the instruction style so while I don’t plan on using this video again, I will consider looking into more of their workout videos.
January 2nd: Stylecraze Fitness’s Pilates for Beginners at Home in 30 minutes
I really liked the instructor of this video and thought she did an outstanding job describing how to do each motion. However, I had the opposite issue with this video that I had with the previous. This video was for beginners and I felt that it was a little too easy. I went through the full 30 minutes and after I didn’t feel any different, almost to the point that I thought I might need another workout. I would like to look at more of Stylecraze Fitness’s videos and might consider this video again but as a warmup/cooldown.
January 3rd: BeFit’s Julian Michaels: Yoga Meltdown Level 1
January 4th: No Internet! We’ve been having issues with our ISP since the start of the year but today we couldn’t get anything to connect. Today, I had to improvise with the moves I remember doing in Julian Michaels’ video yesterday. I could only remember 10-minutes worth of motions so I hopped on my spin bike and did a 20-minute spin routine I had used before.
January 5th: FitnessBlender’s 32 Minute Home Cardio Workout with No Equipment – Calorie Blasting Cardio Training
January 6th: I had house guests over at the last minute so I didn’t have time to do a workout. Instead, I started day one from this 30 Day BedTime Workout Challenge from FemaleFitBody. I follow them on Facebook and Pinterest!
January 7th: Today is the last weekend for hunting and since I love hiking I decided to dress up in all my gear (about 4 layers of warmth since it was 20 degrees) and go out with him. This resulted in a two-hour trip were half was spent dragging my feet from all the weight of the layers. Somewhere along the line, I got caught on a barbed wire fence and fell pretty hard on my back. No serious injuries, just sore muscles. According to this awesome calorie tracking calculator, said hunting activity resulted in burning 775 calories!
Anyways, I hope that some of these notes inspire you to try these videos or YouTube channels!

Whew! It’s the beginning of a new year and this year I want to focus more on creating better videos. Today, I want to share my three favorite Mary Kay products for this month.
1: Mary Kay Foundation Primer: Primers are my beauty must haves! My typical beauty routine includes at least three (face, eyes, lips) but sometimes I branch out and include an eyelash primer and under eye primer when I’m in the mood. Primers are an essential part of your makeup routine. I’m not saying you have to use all of the ones I mentioned but using a face primer should be a must. Primers help your makeup last longer as you wear them throughout the day. They keep your foundation from seeping into your pores and down your face or keep those annoying crease lines from your eyeshadow off your eyelids.
What do I like about Mary Kay’s Foundation Primer? Two things. I’m really picky about my primer and since I already have oily skin, I don’t like using primers that feel more like a lotion than a gel. The MK Foundation Primer is an excellent gel and provides a silky texture to your skin, making applying the foundation after much easier. The second thing I like is that this primer isn’t tinted. Tinted? Yup, I have at least three primers in my drawer that have a yellow tint to them and I’m not sure what that’s all about. This somehow is an issue for me so I’m glad to find a primer that has no color (white, yellow, green, etc.).
2: Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush: Exfoliating does wonders to your skin. It helps remove all the build up that your makeup and face cleansers have been leaving behind. This Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush is outstanding as it exfoliates the skin in a gentle, relaxing way. I love that this brush is also quiet. Having a loud, vibrating brush in my face isn’t appealing to me because it makes me feel like I’m in a car wash….just waiting for the big blow dry finish. However, this brush is quiet and gentle which makes it feel more like getting a facial and less like a car wash.
3: Mary Kay Liquid Eyeliner Pen: The cat eye look is back! I remember trying to master the cat eye back in high school (early freshman year). I didn’t quite master it then but I’d say with this tool in my back pocket I am getting much better. I love that this pen has a pointed tip and is firm enough that I have control over my line strokes.
I hope you consider trying at least one of these outstanding projects. Stay tuned, next week I plan on showing you a trick I use when creating the cat eye look (and yes, I will be using MK’s Liquid Eyeliner Pen).
